Duties/Pligte

  • Conducting medical microbiological research on topics aligned with institutional and national thematic priority areas and strategies, and publishing scientific papers.
  • Generating external grant funding to support the research.
  • Training and supervising postgraduate students.
  • Participating in the Division's and Faculty's teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as managerial and administrative matters.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

  • PhD in medical microbiology or a related field.
  • Proven experience with microbiological and molecular biology-related laboratory research.
  • The applicant should aspire to an academic career as a scientist in medical microbiology.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

  • A track record in publishing scientific papers, generating external funding for research, and postgraduate student supervision.
  • Demonstrable experience in next-generation sequencing, genomics, metagenomics and/or bio-informatics.
  • Registration as a medical scientist (medical biological scientist) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa in the discipline of medical microbiology, or a commitment to complete the medical scientist internship and register as a medical biological scientist within four years of appointment.
