Description

Role: General Manager - Côte d’Ivoire

GSM (Green SM) - Vingroup-backed EV Mobility Platform

  • Reports to: Cluster lead / senior global leadership
  • Team: Builds and leads the full country team across commercial, operations, partnerships, finance, and HR
  • Location: Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire
  • Travel: Mostly within the market; periodic travel to HQ and regional gatherings
  • Start date target: Tied to market launch timing
  • Compensation: TBC (discussed at offer stage with recruitment team)

Launch and lead Côte d’Ivoire’s first all-electric ride-hailing service, as GSM’s country lead in Abidjan.

GSM (Green SM) is building the world’s first fully electric ride-hailing platform - reinventing how people move through cities, one clean ride at a time. Our scope is global and our model is unusually broad: we operate at the intersection of electric vehicle solutions, vehicle financing, EV charging and depot infrastructure, technology development, and ride-hailing. In under three years we have become one of the fastest-scaling players in our markets, and we are now bringing our all-electric service to Africa, beginning with Côte d’Ivoire.

The role

You will own the launch and the running of GSM in Côte d’Ivoire. That means standing up the business from a small founding team, taking the operation live, hitting your first growth and operating milestones, and then scaling it into a leading mobility business in the country. You will be the senior GSM face to regulators, partners, drivers, and the local public, and the first all-electric ride-hailing brand the country has seen.

This is a builder role. You will own both the planning and the delivery, bringing strong planning and execution to turn an ambitious launch into a working operation on the ground in Abidjan. You will work hand in hand with our global teams in Vietnam, who support you across functions, while you drive execution and own the launch outcomes.

What you’ll own

Launch leadership - Drive the country launch end to end: timeline, milestones, vehicle readiness, depot and charging setup, driver onboarding, app, and operations readiness - Bring strong planning and project-management discipline to keep a complex, multi-workstream launch on track - Steer the launch decision points and the trade-offs that come with them

Team and organisation - Hire and lead the country team across commercial, operations, partnerships, finance, and HR - Set the culture, the standards, and the operating rhythm from a standing start - Build the bench so the business can scale beyond the founding team, and help lay the groundwork for regional expansion

Operations and P&L - Run the day-to-day operating engine: marketplace dynamics, driver supply and earnings, customer experience, fleet and depot operations, and charging infrastructure - Own the country P&L: revenue, unit economics, cost base, and capital efficiency - Report performance and risks to senior leadership and bring solutions, not just problems

Partnerships and stakeholder management - Build and own the relationships the business depends on - payment providers, charging and energy partners, insurance, fleet and service partners, and key corporate customers - Represent GSM credibly with local government, regulators, and the public, with HQ support in the early phase

Strategic shaping - Bring market reality back to HQ: what is working, what is not, and what the plan needs to change - Identify and prioritise adjacent opportunities in the market as the core business stabilises

Who you are

You’re a builder, by instinct and by track record. You’ve taken something from zero to running before - a new market, a new business line, a new function - and you’re comfortable operating with incomplete information and a lot of moving parts. You like it.

You’ve operated at pace in a high-growth international environment. You’ve worked inside a fast-moving company where standards are high and the clock is always running, ideally a technology company, marketplace, or on-demand platform, so the mechanics of a two-sided business are second nature to you.

You know Côte d’Ivoire. You understand the local market, the way business actually gets done here, and you bring a network you can put to work from day one.

You think and lead across functions. You’ve run commercial, operations, finance, and people in the same week without losing the plot. You know enough across functions to challenge each one, and enough about leadership to trust the right people to run them.

You’re mature with people, partners, and regulators. You can sit across the table from a national regulator or a group board member and represent GSM credibly. You earn trust quickly and you don’t burn it.

You understand commercial mechanics deeply. You read a P&L like a story, see what drives it, and make the trade-off calls between growth and unit economics without flinching.

You’re resilient. When things go wrong - and they will - you absorb it, recalibrate, and keep moving.

What you bring

  • Fluent French and working English
  • Deep knowledge of the Ivorian market, with an established local network
  • A strong track record in a fast-paced, high-growth international company - ideally a technology company, marketplace, ride-hailing, e-commerce, or on-demand platform
  • P&L ownership at some scale - accountable for revenue, cost, and outcomes, not just contributing
  • Cross-functional leadership - you’ve hired and led teams across commercial, operations, and corporate functions
  • Stakeholder management at senior level - regulators, government, large partners, board-equivalent audiences
  • Based in or ready to relocate to Abidjan, hands-on by nature

Things that would make us excited

  • Direct experience in ride-hailing, mobility, marketplace, fintech, e-commerce, delivery, or logistics
  • Experience launching or scaling a country business from a small founding team
  • A background in consulting, a startup, or both
  • Familiarity with EV, charging infrastructure, or fleet-operations economics

What we offer:

  • Build a national business from the ground up - the founding leader of GSM in Côte d’Ivoire, with a global company behind you
  • Create a category - launch the country’s first all-electric ride-hailing service, with a real and lasting impact
  • EV mobility frontier - work at the intersection of vehicles, charging infrastructure, and platform services
  • Direct visibility to senior global leadership - your work is seen and supported at the highest level
  • Competitive compensation with relocation and local allowance support
