SUMMARY:

This position represents BYK USA within their assigned territory as the technical and commercial customer lead for our additive products and solutions. Included with selling the BYK standard product portfolio, this position will also focus on solution selling customized blends (compacts & concentrates) that BYK Plastics also sells.

The sales representative will have three primary responsibilities:

1.) Driving sales growth within the Thermoplastic market in the assigned territory/customers with the current BYK product portfolio, and solution services, utilizing value selling techniques,

2.) Develop relationships with the key members of this market segment – Tier 1 suppliers, Compounders, & Converters.

3.) Assist in developing additive product opportunities by identifying unmet performance or esthetic needs in the targeted Thermoplastic end use segment. The role will also include significant interaction with regional/global End Use Managers.

The USMCA Plastics Additives business is also leveraging the classical “Customer Intimate” approach to the industry as a whole. As such, strong technical relationship building with key existing customers, potential customers and trade organizations will be most important and impactful. These interactions will typically take place at any stage of the business development process (prospecting, project management and existing sales management) in coordination with the Plastics commercial team.

In short, this is a critical role within the USMCA Plastic Additives business line and BYK as a whole. The growth of the thermoplastic business will depend on the active and aggressive contribution from this commercial position.

This position will report to the Sales Manager for Thermoplastics and will be located in/near their assigned geography. It is anticipated that travel will be required at least 50% of time, so access to a major airport will be considered. As with any sales position, self-initiation will be critical as direct daily oversight will be limited.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sales growth within the Thermoplastics segments:

  • Serve as the primary interface with existing customers or targeted potential customers to drive business development opportunities
  • Manage existing accounts with the primary objective of growing sales.
  • Develop sales at prospective customers.
  • Active involvement at trade organizations and events
  • Attend key trade events as necessary

SKILLS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Communicate effectively with customers, including personal visits, conversing on telephone, making presentations, emailing, etc.
  • Must be able to drive a car and fly on a plane, coping with conditions of international and overnight travel.
  • Overnight travel at least 50%.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer engineering, or related material science or engineering.
  • Knowledge of the plastic industry; automotive segment preferred
  • Minimum 7 years relevant experience working for a commercial business in the polymer industry.
  • Experience within technical service and/or commercial sales is preferred
