This role demands a proactive professional who acts as a mentor and coach to maintain a positive safety culture while ensuring strict regulatory compliance.
The ideal candidate will manage a diverse portfolio of projects, including standard commercial sites and high-stakes federal and government contracts requiring adherence to strict federal regulations. This position requires regular travel throughout Western and Central New York and Pennsylvania to audit, train, and support our workforce.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Site Management
- Multi-Environment Monitoring: Monitor and support compliance with regards to OSHA, State, and Federal Regulations, company policies, and specific jobsite requirements.
- Rigorous Site Inspections: Conduct routine and unannounced safety inspections across various environments, including active construction jobsites, federal facilities, and corporate fabrication shops.
- Safety Planning & Risk Assessment: Develop, implement, and update comprehensive Site-Specific Safety Plans (including Accident Prevention Plans for federal jobs) and detailed Task Hazard Risk Assessments (AHA/JHA) prior to the kickoff of complex work phases.
- Equipment Oversight: Oversee the routine inspection, tracking, and inventory management of all field and office safety equipment, PPE, and specialized safety gear.
Training, Education & Field Support
- Onboarding & Training: Lead comprehensive New Hire Safety Orientations and facilitate ongoing, mandated Employee Safety Training programs.

- Project Collaborations: Lead and participate in Project Safety Meetings with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and government representatives.
Incident Management & Administrative Excellence
- Incident Investigations: Lead the immediate response, data collection, and root-cause analysis for any workplace incidents, injuries, or near-misses.
- Meticulous Recordkeeping: Maintain impeccable safety logs, training records, inspection documentation, and OSHA compliance files in alignment with both corporate standards and government contracting rules.
Active Committee & Initiative Participation
The Safety Manager is expected to be a collaborative, visible stakeholder who actively participates in:
- Monthly and Quarterly Safety Committee Meetings to review regional trends and performance.
- Weekly Toolbox Talks- driving the continuous development of relevant topics, field compliance, and delivery audits.
- Biannual Safety Meetings and corporate-wide Safety Stand Downs.
- Policy Development & Training Material Development to constantly modernize and elevate company safety standards.
- Post-Incident Reviews and long-term corporate Safety Initiatives designed to achieve zero-incident milestones.

- Physical Requirements: Ability to safely navigate active, complex fabrication shops and construction zones, including climbing scaffolding, walking uneven terrain, and wearing full PPE for extended periods.
Essential Skills
- Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills; confident presenting to field crews, corporate executives, and federal contracting officers.
- Analytical Thinking: Demonstrated analytical skills with a proven capability to spot behavioral and physical risk trends before they result in incidents.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record of acting as a mentor and coach rather than a policing figure, effectively building trust at all levels of the organization.
- Technical Proficiency: Highly proficient in the Office 365 suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint) for documentation, data tracking, and report building.
- Autonomy & Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage a regional schedule, and exercise sound judgment in high-pressure situations, paired with a strong willingness to reach out to other team members when help or a second perspective is needed.
