Salary: $80,000 – $90,000 + Early-Stage Equity
About the Role
We are a New York City-based AI startup building the next generation of dental billing. We are seeking a Head of Dental Billing to serve as our founding Subject Matter Expert (SME). This is a rare opportunity for a DSO-experienced billing leader to step into the tech space and directly shape how AI transforms dental revenue cycle management — from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
Dental Billing & Industry Expertise
- Act as the primary Dental Billing SME, drawing on DSO-scale experience to guide the product team in building automated, multi-practice workflows
- Serve as the primary point of contact for office managers and dentists to gather feedback and troubleshoot billing issues across diverse practice environments
- Maintain deep knowledge of major PMS systems, including Dentrix, Eaglesoft, and Open Dental
- Stay current on annual ADA/CDT code changes and evolving payer requirements across commercial and government payers
Leadership & Operations
- Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) informed by DSO best practices for how practices interact with the AI platform
- Identify opportunities to build and scale the billing organization, including full-time and outsourced team members
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to billing effectiveness, denial rates, and collections performance
Requirements
- 5+ years of dental billing experience, including handling complex claims, appeals, and end-to-end revenue cycle workflows
- DSO experience is required — candidates must have managed billing operations across multiple locations or within a centralized billing center
- Expert-level knowledge of CDT codes and dental insurance types (PPO, HMO, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage)
- Strong familiarity with major Practice Management Systems (Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental)
- Startup mindset with comfort in ambiguity, rapid iteration, and cross-functional collaboration with technical teams
- NYC-based with the ability to work in-office as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a dental billing leadership or director-level role within a DSO or regional group practice
- Prior experience in a Product Specialist or Implementation role within a health-tech or dental-tech company
- Certification in Dental Billing (CPB) or Dental Coding
