Job Description

You will contribute to the Payload Data Processing engineering activities within EUMETSAT’s Satellite System Ground Segments division, supporting the maintenance, evolution, verification and operational readiness of mission data processing systems. The activities focus on Level-0, Level-1 and Level-2 near real-time Earth Observation data processing systems and processors.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Investigation and correction of software and configuration anomalies
  • Support to software maintenance, deployment and release activities
  • Contribution to system engineering and data processing evolutions
  • Support to integration, verification and validation (IV&V) activities, including preparation and execution of test plans and procedures
  • Contribution to automated test environments and CI/CD activities
  • Preparation and maintenance of technical documentation
  • Support to requirements and configuration management activities
  • Participation in technical meetings, reviews and coordination activities

Required qualifications and experience

  • Fluency in English
  • University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline
  • Experience in Earth Observation or meteorological satellite data processing systems
  • Experience in integration, verification and validation (IV&V) activities
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux environments
  • Knowledge of scripting and programming languages such as Python, Shell, Perl, C/C++ or Java
  • Experience with software testing, configuration management and software release processes
  • Experience with tools such as Git/GitLab, Jira or similar
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and within multicultural teams
  • Excellent communication, presentation and team working skills

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Experience with operational satellite ground segments
  • Knowledge of ECSS standards
  • Experience with DOORS and/or Enterprise Architect
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing environments
  • Experience with databases and operational procedures
  • Knowledge of Earth Observation product calibration and validation activities

Work Location

Darmstadt, Germany

The position follows a hybrid working model with a combination of on-site work at and remote working. Regular on-site presence in Darmstadt is required depending on operational needs.
