Director – Senior Counsel, Derivatives & Asset Management | Hong Kong
The Role
Our client is a leading global financial services organisation with a well‑established and growing asset management platform across Asia. They are seeking a senior derivatives lawyer to join their regional Legal team in Hong Kong, partnering closely with investment, trading, ALM and risk functions.
This is a hands‑on, commercially focused role advising on complex derivatives activity across multiple Asian markets, with exposure to senior stakeholders locally and globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal advice on derivatives transactions and usage across Asia Asset Management.
- Draft, review and negotiate ISDA Master Agreements, schedules, CSAs, confirmations and related collateral and netting arrangements.
- Support trading, investment, ALM and risk teams on derivatives used for hedging and investment strategies.
- Identify and manage legal, regulatory and reputational risk, ensuring compliance with internal governance and enterprise standards.
- Monitor regulatory developments affecting buy‑side and insurance‑related derivatives activity and advise the business accordingly.
Candidate Profile
- Qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction; Hong Kong qualification strongly preferred.
- 10+ years’ legal experience with deep derivatives expertise, ideally including significant in‑house experience at an asset manager, insurer, SFC‑licensed institution or international dealer.
- Strong technical knowledge of derivatives documentation, collateral and enforceability issues; securities financing exposure is advantageous.
- Commercial, pragmatic and confident working in a complex, matrixed international environment.
- Asia regional experience, including Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, is highly desirable.
