The Opportunity

We’re partnered with an exciting high-growth product-led technology company that is scaling rapidly following significant investment and continued customer growth across the UK and international markets.

As part of this growth, they’re looking to hire a Lead DevOps Engineer to take ownership of the cloud infrastructure, platform reliability, automation strategy, and DevOps culture across the engineering function.

This is a key leadership position within the business where you’ll have a genuine impact on technical direction, scalability, platform performance, and engineering best practice. You’ll work closely with Software Engineering, Platform, Security and Product teams to build and maintain highly available, secure and scalable cloud-native systems.

The environment is fast-paced, collaborative and engineering-driven, with a strong focus on modern tooling, automation, CI/CD and infrastructure scalability.

The Role

As Lead DevOps Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing, building and evolving a highly scalable AWS platform powering a modern SaaS product environment.

You’ll lead DevOps initiatives across cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes orchestration, observability, security and deployment automation, while mentoring engineers and helping shape the future platform strategy.

This role would suit someone who enjoys operating in a modern cloud-native environment and wants the autonomy to influence architecture, tooling and engineering standards within a scaling technology business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation and optimisation of cloud infrastructure within AWS
  • Own and evolve the company’s Kubernetes platform and container orchestration strategy
  • Drive Infrastructure as Code best practices using Terraform
  • Build, maintain and optimise CI/CD pipelines across Jenkins and GitLab
  • Improve platform reliability, scalability, performance and availability
  • Implement monitoring, alerting and observability solutions using Prometheus and Grafana
  • Collaborate closely with Software Engineers to improve deployment processes and developer experience
  • Support security, compliance and DevSecOps initiatives across the platform
  • Automate operational processes and reduce manual infrastructure management
  • Participate in architectural discussions and long-term platform strategy
  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level DevOps/Platform engineers
  • Champion DevOps culture, automation-first thinking and engineering best practice
  • Support incident response, troubleshooting and root cause analysis when required

What They’re Looking For

  • Strong commercial experience within DevOps, Platform Engineering or SRE environments
  • Proven experience leading or mentoring engineers within cloud-native environments
  • Deep AWS infrastructure knowledge
  • Strong Kubernetes and containerisation experience
  • Expertise with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
  • Strong experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tooling
  • Python scripting/automation experience
  • Strong understanding of security, scalability and reliability principles
  • Ability to work closely with engineering teams in a collaborative product environment
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive mindset

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within startup, scale-up or SaaS product businesses
  • Exposure to GitOps tooling
  • Experience with cost optimisation and cloud governance
  • Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks
  • Experience scaling high-traffic production systems
  • Exposure to multi-environment Kubernetes deployments
