Purpose of the role
The Knowledge Transfer Manager (KTM) – European Programme will support Innovate UK Business Connect’s programme of European engagement including Horizon Europe with the main emphasis to increase business engagement with appropriate European programmes and ultimately grow UK return on investment.
The role will provide technical and project management capability with a primary focus on the theme of European programmes, across Innovate UK Business Connect and with four main areas of activity and delivery:
- Develop a strong understanding of UK capabilities and their requirements of international partners with a view to identifying the most relevant partners (including Innovate UK Business Connect), to participate in European programmes.
- Management and delivery of selected projects that are cross-cutting in nature (i.e. span most of Innovate UK Business Connect activity).
- Support to UK companies seeking to participate in European programmes, including delivery of themed workshops in partnership with Innovate UK Business Connect colleagues, relevant National Contact Points and Innovate UK Edge and other key stakeholders.
- Delivery of Innovate UK Business Connect KPIs, project reports, proposals and CRM contents.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Support to Innovate UK Business Connect delivery plans and Global and Europe Innovation commitments in its Strategy aligned with the Government Industrial Strategy 8 and HMG campaign Boosting quality UK participation in Horizon Europe.
- Building and maintaining awareness of European programmes (particularly Horizon Europe) and stakeholders (including European Partnerships and European Technology Platforms where it is in the UK interest).
- Continue to support UK participation in European programmes, within the spirit of European Commission and UK Government guidance.
- Delivering Horizon Europe and other EU programme themed workshops and events to stimulate effective collaborations.
- To track progress of businesses to determine outcomes resulting from Innovate UK Business Connect interventions, seeking case studies and metrics (KPI) capture.
- To seek opportunities for Innovate UK Business Connect, with potential for new growth opportunities in global innovation.
- To support KPI delivery and provide regular reporting of activity and outcomes.
- To lead specific tasks and be an active team member in within the European Programmes team.
- To manage selected projects that are cross cutting in nature and span much of Innovate UK Business Connect activity.
- To deliver themed workshops and webinars which help promote and simplify Horizon Europe and wider European opportunities and stimulate effective collaborations in support of UK businesses (with support of relevant National Contact Points and Innovation Leads).
- To engage with relevant Innovate UK Growth and internal/external Sector Groups, seeking opportunities to engage their support in Innovate UK Business Connect directed activity where appropriate.
- To manage or support specific European programmes, particularly those of a cross cutting nature (manage) or to drive cross cutting capability in an otherwise themed programme (support).
- To directly engage with businesses, providing thematic support for European programmes including Horizon Europe and signposting to best sources of expertise.
- To support impact analysis of UK participation and outputs of engagement. Track progress of businesses to determine outcomes resulting from Innovate UK Business Connect interventions, seeking case studies and metrics (KPI) capture.
- An ability to contribute to wider team activities and priorities as required. To maintain a strong relationship with National Contact Points and Innovation Leads across UKRI Innovate UK.
- To seek opportunities for Innovate UK Business Connect and work with colleagues to submit proposals with potential for additional income.
- To contribute to Innovate UK Business Connect wide communications and to support KPI delivery and provide regular reporting of activity and outcomes.
Essential Experience
- Degree qualified or equivalent with relevant industrial/international research experience and strong ability in written and verbal communication skills.
- Direct experience in European Programmes, with good understanding of the programme structures, influencing routes and what is required for a winning proposal.
- Demonstrable experience in delivering results in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder programme environment across different sectors and international cultures.
- Strong understanding of the UK and European innovation landscape, ideally cross sectorial, with an acumen or experience in business growth.
- Strong liaison, networking, diplomacy and negotiation skills. An ability to anticipate stakeholder reactions and communication needs.
- Experience and aptitude in business and public-sector stakeholder engagement at all levels, with a good professional profile and network.
Desirable Experience
- Partial/full Project Management qualification.

- A highly motivated, self-starting and results oriented individual with a strong desire to deliver economic and societal impacts through innovation partnerships.
- A good communicator with well-developed written and verbal skills, able to translate complex topics for a broad audience, ideally multilingual.
- Results oriented and demonstrated capability to deliver autonomously within an effective team in a fast-paced environment, including complex projects.
- Excellent analytical and writing skills, including the ability to present complex information concisely and accurately under tight deadlines
- Highly numerate and analytical, with the ability to think strategically.
- Willingness to travel in UK and abroad, including occasional overnight (or longer) absences
- High level of IT literacy and organisational skills.
