Why we need this role

We are seeking Optical Network Consultant in the network planning team who will ensure Colt’s optical network has the right capacity and capability in the right locations at the right time, supporting strategic planning, proactive capacity management, forecasting, and on-time service deliver. This role goes beyond hands‑on engineering and also focuses on sales & customer‑facing engagement, solution guidance, and technical leadership for the local engineering team.

What You Will Do

  • Support Sales and Service Delivery during pre‑sales and delivery (capacity checks, feasibility, technical input).
  • Serve as the technical lead for optical solutions, capacity strategy, and delivery feasibility.
  • Lead discussions with customers/partners on architecture, handoff, resilience, and future‑ready designs.
  • Monitor network utilization and performance to identify and prevent bottlenecks early.
  • Forecast demand using trends, run‑rate, and pipeline to plan capacity proactively.
  • Drive timely capacity expansions, balancing investment and delivery needs.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain, vendors, and delivery teams to ensure timely resources and deployment.
  • Identify optimization opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Maintain planning standards and design inputs for Ciena and Nokia platforms.
  • Track end‑to‑end delivery plans, risks, and dependencies to meet commitments.
  • Define and manage KPIs, dashboards, and reporting aligned with business goals.

What we're looking for

  • Business-level proficiency in Japanese and English
  • Senior-level expertise in DWDM/OTN technologies (e.g., Ciena, Nokia, Fujitsu, ADTRAN, or equivalent)
  • Experience working directly with customers, sales, and service delivery in a technical advisory capacity
  • Strong understanding of optical network architecture, including ROADM systems, transponders, and photonic design principles
  • Ability to support network planning and design decisions (capacity strategy, resilience, technology selection)
  • Effective stakeholder management across Sales, Service Delivery, Engineering, Architecture, and leadership teams
  • Strong communication skills, balancing technical depth with clear business outcomes
  • Experience driving optimization initiatives (e.g., capacity reuse, license optimization, asset recovery)
  • Comfortable operating as a senior individual contributor, providing technical leadership without direct reports
  • Experience improving networks through innovation, optimization, and process enhancements
  • Ability to support large-scale network expansion or transformation projects (e.g., overlays, subsea upgrades, proactive builds, node exits, regulatory programs)

Other preferences

  • Experience with automation and digitalization of planning, including AI‑based forecasting and automated monitoring.
  • Proven track record in improving end‑to‑end capacity delivery (shorter lead times, defined SLAs, standardized processes).
  • Knowledge of designing customer‑specific optical solutions and tailored delivery requirements.
  • Experience in network testing, benchmarking, fault reproduction, and issue validation.
  • Understanding of SDN orchestrator platforms for service provisioning in multi‑vendor optical environments.
