React Foundation — Lead, Ecosystem & Community
The React Foundation is seeking a Lead, Ecosystem & Community to help strengthen and grow one of the most important developer ecosystems in the world.
React powers products, companies, startups, platforms, and careers across nearly every industry. The React Foundation exists to help ensure the long-term health, sustainability, stability, and growth of that ecosystem through open governance, community investment, education, collaboration, and ecosystem stewardship.
This role is focused on people, ecosystems, and communities.
You will help developers, companies, educators, maintainers, communities, organizers, and platform teams successfully build with React while strengthening the long-term health of the ecosystem itself.
This role is less focused on individual technical advocacy and more focused on strengthening the React ecosystem through community leadership, ecosystem coordination, relationship building, and strategic organizing.
Responsibilities
Ecosystem Development
- Help grow and strengthen the global React ecosystem
- Build relationships with maintainers, educators, framework authors, tooling creators, organizers, and community leaders
- Identify ecosystem gaps, risks, opportunities, and areas requiring additional support
- Help improve coordination and collaboration across the broader React ecosystem
- Support the long-term sustainability of React ecosystem projects and contributors
- Help identify and elevate important ecosystem initiatives and emerging leaders
Community Leadership
- Support and grow React communities around the world
- Help organize and coordinate:
- community programs
- hackathons
- meetups
- workshops
- ecosystem initiatives
- ambassador programs
- educational efforts
- Build strong relationships with regional community organizers and technical leaders
- Foster inclusive, welcoming, and technically healthy communities
- Encourage greater participation across underrepresented regions and groups
- Help connect local communities into the broader global React ecosystem
Maintainer & Contributor Support
- Develop programs and systems that better support open source maintainers and contributors
- Help reduce friction for participation in the ecosystem
- Improve contributor onboarding and ecosystem discoverability
- Help maintainers connect with one another, collaborate, and share best practices
- Advocate internally and externally for ecosystem sustainability and maintainer health
Strategic Ecosystem Programs
- Partner with the React Foundation board, members, and ecosystem partners on strategic initiatives
- Help coordinate ecosystem-wide efforts across companies, maintainers, and communities
- Support foundation initiatives related to education, sustainability, ecosystem growth, and governance
- Assist in shaping programs that strengthen the overall health of the React ecosystem
- Help gather ecosystem feedback and sentiment to inform foundation priorities
Communication & Representation
- Represent the React Foundation publicly at conferences, events, podcasts, livestreams, and community discussions
- Help communicate the Foundation’s mission, values, and ecosystem initiatives
- Amplify important community work and ecosystem contributions
- Build trust across companies, communities, maintainers, and contributors
- Help ensure the ecosystem feels collaborative, open, and globally accessible
Qualifications
Required
- Strong experience in community leadership, ecosystem development, developer relations, open source leadership, or program management
- Deep familiarity with the React ecosystem and modern frontend development
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong organizational and coordination abilities
- Demonstrated experience growing communities or ecosystem programs
- Ability to work across organizations, cultures, and technical communities
- Ability to operate independently and drive initiatives forward
- Strong judgment, empathy, and collaboration skills
Preferred
- Experience organizing technical communities, conferences, meetups, or ambassador programs
- Experience working with open source communities or foundations
- Experience supporting maintainers or ecosystem sustainability efforts
- Experience working with global developer communities
- Technical background in frontend engineering or JavaScript ecosystems
- Experience working with nonprofit, standards, or governance organizations
- Public speaking or community-facing communication experience

Salary $150,000 - $171,000
