Position Overview

A large, multi-generational family office is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee accounting operations across a highly complex structure of 300+ entities. The family office has significant investments in private equity and real estate and requires a hands-on accounting leader with exceptionally strong accounting knowledge who can thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume office environment. This role is ideal for a technically strong accounting professional who enjoys reviewing complex books and workpapers, mentoring staff, and serving as a day-to-day resource for accounting questions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and review monthly, quarterly, and annual books and records for 150+ partnerships, operating companies and trusts in a fast-paced office environment
  • Review accounting workpapers prepared for tax return preparation, ensuring technical accuracy and completeness
  • Coordinate with private equity fund managers and third-party administrators to obtain financial data and resolve discrepancies.
  • Apply strong accounting knowledge to complex transactions and investment structures
  • Serve as a primary accounting liaison to internal tax teams
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment for complex investments, including:
  • Private equity funds and direct investments
  • Real estate holdings and related entities
  • Aircraft and yacht ownership structures
  • Maintain and enhance internal accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Train, mentor, and support accounting staff; act as a go-to resource for technical accounting questions
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and consistency across a high-entity-count structure
  • Assist with special projects, entity structuring initiatives, and ad hoc reporting requests

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred)
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including management or supervisory responsibilities
  • Demonstrated strong accounting knowledge in partnership accounting
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, in-office environment
  • Background in a family office, private equity, real estate, hedge fund, or public accounting setting
  • Proven experience reviewing workpapers for tax return preparation and coordinating with tax professionals
  • Ability to teach, mentor, and answer day-to-day accounting questions from staff
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
