To strengthen our team in Shanghai , we are looking for you as a(n) GC Business Director - Building&Infrastructure.

Job Responsibilities

  • Business Strategy & Growth
  • Develop and implement mid to long term business strategies aligned with global corporate and regional objectives.
  • Identify growth opportunities in target industries, applications, and customer segments within the chemical market.
  • Translate global strategy into local execution plans, ensuring competitiveness and market relevance in China.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, regulatory developments, and customer needs to adjust strategy proactively.
  • P&L and Financial Management
  • Full responsibility for revenue, profitability, and cost management of the assigned business area.
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and business plans.
  • Ensure achievement of sales targets, margin objectives, and cash flow goals.
  • Drive pricing strategies in close coordination with global and regional stakeholders.
  • Sales, Marketing & Customer Management
  • Oversee sales and marketing activities to strengthen market position and brand presence.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, strategic partners, and industry stakeholders.
  • Lead key negotiations with major accounts and support strategic deal closures.
  • Ensure high customer satisfaction and long term partnership development.
  • Leadership & Organization Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high performing business team across sales, and technical/commercial functions.
  • Foster a performance driven, collaborative, and compliance oriented culture.
  • Ensure effective cross functional collaboration with Operations, Supply Chain, R&D, Finance, HR, and EHS.
  • Support talent development, succession planning, and organizational capability building.
  • Operations & Cross Functional Alignment
  • Work closely with Operations and Supply Chain to ensure reliable product availability and customer service.
  • Align closely with R&D and Technical teams to support innovation, product adaptation, and application development.
  • Ensure smooth interface between local operations and global functions.
  • Compliance, EHS & Corporate Governance
  • Ensure strict adherence to corporate policies, German corporate governance standards, and local legal requirements.
  • Act as a role model for Ethics, Compliance, and EHS (Environment, Health & Safety).
  • Ensure all business activities meet internal control, risk management, and sustainability requirements.

Qualifications Required:

  • More than 10 years experience in chemical or related industry with focus on Sales & Marketing
  • Leadership ability to propose local solutions when needed and to get things done locally once aligned with Global Business strategy
  • University degree in science and/or business; MBA preferred
  • Experience in working with and lobbying to government and regulatory institutions related to the targeted industry
  • Advanced IT skills (Microsoft Office suite)
  • Fluent in English, spoken and written
  • Excellent communication and conflict management skills (internal and external).
  • Experience in a variety of cultures and geographies
  • Team-oriented with strong leadership ability
  • Target oriented and persistent (never give up)
  • Good customer orientation and teamwork attitude
  • experience in developing new markets, applications and customers
  • Willingness to travel
