At Leo Cussen, we recognise that career goals and work commitments change for various reasons. As a result, Leo Cussen’s Associate Lawyer and Mentors Network has been set up to attract experienced current practicing, talented and inspiring lawyers the option of an agile approach to various engagement opportunities as an independent contractor that could fit in with other current commitments.

We are keen to speak to experienced current practicing lawyers, who love mentoring and coaching our lawyers of the future, who are interested in this flexible way of working and have at least two of the practice areas taught in the Graduate Diploma Legal Practice (GDLP). Assignment opportunities are available Nationally, and will depend on your legal skillset, experience and availability.

  • Banking & Finance
  • Consumer Law Practice
  • Criminal Law Practice
  • Employment Law Practice
  • Family Law Practice
  • Planning & Environment
  • Wills & Estates
  • Transactions (Property and Commercial)
  • Civil Disputes
  • Advocacy

Skills and Experiences:

We would love to hear from you if you are passionate about mentoring and coaching our lawyers of the future and have:

  • Tertiary qualification in law and eligibility to practise law in Australia
  • Minimum 5 years legal practice experience in at least two of the practice areas taught in the GDLP
  • Skills in the use of education technology including use of learning management systems and video conferencing tools such as Zoom or MS Teams
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, specifically supporting, coaching and mentoring junior lawyers
  • Excellent time management capability
  • Energetic, collaborative and collegiate work style
  • Great commercial stakeholder and relationship management abilities
