Applied agricultural researcher, specializing in phytopathology, with an emphasis on biological control of pests and diseases using microorganisms. Specialties: Conceiving, organizing, setting-up, carrying-out, monitoring and evaluating laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments involving interactions between plants, microorganisms, nematodes and insects, on a variety of crops. Experience with Mac and Windows operating systems, MS Office, SPSS, WinRhizo, and other research-related software.
Teaching bachelor (undergraduate) and master (graduate) level courses on a variety of topics relating to tropical crop production, agroecology and agrobiodiversity; Supervising internships, research projects and theses of bachelors and masters students, as well as of doctoral candidates; Miscellaneous administrative and coordination activities, as needed.
- Promote and improve simple seedling multiplication systems and to train technicians on the application of these techniques for production of healthy planting materials. - Supervise and train National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in agronomic research - including laboratory and field work, as well as teaching them scientific skills such as reviewing literature and writing reports. - Promote the distribution of improved variety seedlings, using community and farmer organisations so that the varieties are adopted by farmers. - Establish on-farm agronomic experiments looking at effects of drought, planting density and cultivar selection on plant productivity. - Carry out a baseline survey to gain a better understanding of local farmers' cropping systems, esp. in combination with cocoa and cassava, under the umbrella of the Sustainable Tree Crops Program (STCP). - Work with the Banana Breeder and others in publications, concept note preparation, and project development.
