Duties: • Ensure full compliance with SHEQ standards and legal requirements in the laboratory. • Identify workplace hazards, assessed risks, and implement preventative safety measures. • Oversee laboratory budgeting and control expenditure in line with approved cost plans. • Develop, implement, and maintain the quality management system aligned to ISO/IEC 17025 standards. • Ensure continued maintenance of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and successful audit outcomes. • Conduct management reviews, internal quality evaluations and monthly QMS performance reports. • Ensure adherence to standard laboratory operating procedures including sample preparation, weighing, analysis and results reporting. • Investigate non-conformances, lead root-cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventative actions. • Ensure proper sample receiving, labelling, traceability, and record-keeping processes. • Monitor laboratory consumables and ensure stock availability for uninterrupted operations. • Engage with clients and stakeholders to communicate analytical results and address quality concerns. • Training and mentoring of laboratory staff through on-the-job training and competency assessments. • Ensure contractor compliance with laboratory and QLS standards. • Improve laboratory efficiency and turnaround time by optimizing workflow and resource planning. • Maintain high accuracy in analytical results through strict QC monitoring, instrument verification, and method compliance.
Duties: • Priorities work to be performed • Prepare quality control standards • Perform regular evaluations on standard method used • Perform method development and validations and automation optimization for consistent lab throughput. • Ensure the effectiveness of key laboratory equipment for optimal availability • Meet customer analytical needs and requirements • Lead troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of automated laboratory equipment, including PLC and HMI systems (Herzog, Bruker) • Conduct PLC programming and HMI configuration for automated sample preparation and analysis systems. • Programming and maintenance ABB industrial robotic systems used for sample handling and processing. • Perform instrumentation calibrations and diagnostics for lab automation equipment (e.g., Auto IR Dryers, presses, mills, splitters, crushers etc.). • Actively involved in commissioning new automation systems and integration of lab control systems. • Ensure continuous operation of automated sampling, preparation, and analysis systems, minimizing downtime. • Maintain and evaluate control logic and process loops to WDXRF, ICP-OES, auto titrators, and PrepMaster. • Serve as Acting Lab Manager, managing automation workflows and interfacing with multidisciplinary teams. • Implement preventative maintenance schedules and provide support for control system upgrades. • Stock control • Standby duties
