• Built platforms for testing CRISPR-Cas gene editing efficiency and patterns in the lab. Tested the efficacy of multiple novel Cas proteins from Doudna lab in the protoplast system. • Established the hypercompact CRISPR-CasΦ gene editing system in plants and optimized this system to enhance gene editing efficiency and to generate heritable gene editing outcomes. • Discovered the surprising connection between the enigmatic MOM1 protein and the de novo DNA methylation machinery in Arabidopsis.
