About

“I’m sure Young can do it.” Throughout my time at Boeing, I’m proud to have built a solid reputation for being able to solve seemingly impossible software problems, keep projects on time despite tight deadlines, and reduce time spent on software updates or help desk ticket resolution. I’ve even earned the nickname around the office as “Spartacus.” While I’m not sure what the leader of a Roman slave revolt exactly has to do with my coding and software development abilities, I choose to take it as a compliment. As an experienced software developer with a master’s degree in Computer Science, I’ve enjoyed being able to not only guide teams towards a project’s success, but also bring about significant software developments that have helped programs run more smoothly than ever before. Here are just a few of the ways I cemented my “Young can do it” reputation: SAVING TIME & REALIGNING RESOURCES ✔ Significantly reduced help desk ticket resolution time from 6+ days to <10 min per ticket. ✔ Decreased complex software update from 1 week to 4 hours. REWRITING OUTDATED SOFTWARE ✔ Delivered near-perfect software rewrite within 12 weeks – a seemingly impossible task by manager and colleagues. ✔ Recoded 500MB of complex xml files every 2 weeks for defense airplane project. LEADING TEAMS & PROJECTS TOWARDS SUCCESS ✔ Grew corporate’s confidence in division’s group and mitigated team’s disbanding. ✔ Trained team on complex software hand-hacking and workarounds for complex and persistent software issues. If you’re wondering the story behind my “Spartacus” nickname or how I’ve helped teams reduce ticket resolution times or rewrote complex software in a matter of weeks among other projects, I welcome your connection and contact. -- Young Liu

    • Software Developer – IT Security – Ticket Resolution – Software Repair – Team Efficiency
      Jun 2009 - Present · 17 yrs 2 mos

------------------------------------------------- I was transferred to the IT Security team within Boeing after 5+ years in the Defense division. I was hired to develop an enterprise-wide solution for the team’s $20M Oracle Identity Manager software investment that managed access provisioning. ------------------------------------------------- I’ve faced many software challenges throughout my time in the Boeing IT Security division. Some key projects are: SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASING HELP DESK RESOLUTION TIME — This project allowed me to use my ability to manipulate data to find clean-up techniques and workarounds to find a way to mitigate the need for having to manually intervene on individual tickets. — I increased the help desk ticket resolution from <1 per day to >30 per day while also and decreasing a ticket’s resolution time from 6+ days to <10 min by creating scripts and code for team to quickly work around persistent issues. — My work on this project made me the Oracle Identity Manager’s Subject Matter Expert. COMPLETELY REWROTE OUTDATED SOFTWARE APPLICATION SERVING 80K STAFF — Deemed an impossible task by my team and managers, I was tasked with upgrading an old software application riddled with security problems and hadn’t been maintained in years. — By implementing agile techniques, I completed all the requirements, including architecture, design, code, implementation, testing, project management, and group and system coordination. — My intern and I delivered a near-perfect software rewrite within 12 weeks and received 0 vulnerability issues in the first scan.

    • Software Developer – US Defense – Framework Initiation – Proof of Concept – Process Implementation
      Dec 2004 - Jun 2009 · 4 yrs 7 mos

------------------------------------------------- I was recruited out of college to take part in a newly installed Information Management team for the US Navy defense contract to develop the Mission Systems software on the Navy’s next generation flying submarine hunter. This plane replaced a 40-year-old patrol plane. The software controlled the data flow from radar, sonar, radio, and weapons systems and helped them communicate cross-functionally. ------------------------------------------------- PROVIDED PROOF OF CONCEPT & QUICKLY MADE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS — I realigned the non-working framework by utilizing my initiative, problem solving skills, and coding knowledge to create the necessary configuration to jumpstart the project. — To create the proof of concept, I created a test project that troubleshooted the faulty issues while utilizing agile techniques to ensure the protocol worked prior to integrating it into the entire system. — I wrote the code, configured the working display, and implemented a usable process within 2 weeks. — Through this project, I built a solid reputation amongst my team and other teams and we also had a workable project to move forward with. DELIVERED WORKABLE SOFTWARE FOR INDIAN DERIVATIVE OF DEFENSE PLANE — Every 2 weeks, I was given a 500MB xml file of the plane’s latest US software updates to recode for the plane’s Indian counterpart. — To save time, I was able to hand-hack the updates and reduced the time it took me from 1 week to 4 hours. — My team was the one team to deliver all of the updates without having to reschedule or extend the deadline.
