About

I am currently a student at NUS pursuing an undergraduate degree, majoring in chemical engineering. I am always excited to learn new chemical processes and interested in adopting emerging technologies to make the process more efficient and automated. Being a graduate of SP Chemical Engineering, I have repeatedly been exposed to the laboratories and process areas. This has given me a firm understanding of the everyday life of a chemical engineer. The three years of diploma studies also equipped me with relevant technical skills such as chemical plant design and proficiency in Aspen HYSYS, as well as soft skills such as project management, conflict management, critical thinking  and problem solving. The internship experience in Oiltanking has deepened my understanding of how an actual process plant operates and the responsibilities of a chemical engineer. Furthermore, I am more confident in drawing connections between what is taught in school and what is expected in the workplace. I believe that I will sharpen my existing skills and learn more relevant skills in the competitive environment provided by the university, and I am looking forward to implementing and polishing them in any opportunities I receive.

Experience

  • Training Department Intern at Oiltanking
    Sep 2020 - Jan 2021 · 5 mos

The internship gave me the unique experience of understanding the daily operation of an oil or chemical terminal, which is quite different from a process plant. The bountiful learning resources in the training department gave me profound technical knowledge relevant to chemical engineering. Thanks to my supervisor and manager, I was also given the opportunity to learn about other departments like operations, engineering, and maintenance. Furthermore, I was involved in an innovation project using UI Path to automate repetitive administrative tasks.
