My move to MrFix in November 2015 is a great opportunity for me to improve my management skills with direct responsibility for running an entire business and expanding it fast. During the last twenty years I have executed complex investment projects in most European countries as well as in Africa, North America and Asia. I have learned in particular through: • 37 M&A transactions of €5m to €300m each in ten years at leading investment banks in London • 2 years of Treasury (Finance, Cash Management & Risk Management) for a cleantech group • Successfully establishing a financial services and an online services business by winning clients • 20 years of strategic analysis / advice to companies including negotiation of 18 takeovers • Building & leading a consultancy in Spain, a banking team in the UK & a treasury team in Germany
MrFix is an Amsterdam-based platform that matches busy people with reliable home repair & improvement specialists. Its first external funder invited me to head the business, with specific responsibility for strategy, funding, operations & HR. As Director Business Development (first for Europe, then Africa & Middle East), I identified, assessed & negotiated opportunities for APM Terminals to acquire container ports (such as Scandinavia's largest container terminal in 2011), to develop new ports and to exit those that are no longer core to our business (such as one of France's largest in 2014).
I worked directly with the CEO and CFO to: - Raise new debt and optimise the maturity and currency profile - Plan & execute equity issues by both private placement and IPO - Centralise cash management in order to improve returns - Manage our group's risks and contract insurance accordingly
I built Nomura’s European Transport & Business Services franchise into a ~€3m business and integrated the Transport activities of the former Lehman Brothers, successfully originating and managing four M&A / Capital Markets transactions: • Air France’s acquisition of 25% of Alitalia (~€300m, signed Jan 09) • Vueling Airlines’ merger with Clickair (~€300m, 2009) • Business services acquisitions by quoted Omani group (€30-200m, pending) • Long-term debt raising & swap for Nordic airport operator (~€150m)
My business partner and I successfully: * Combined his hospitality and consulting experience with my e-commerce and travel industry knowledge * Acquired the Search Engine Optimisation and website usability knowledge required to become the leaders in these fields in the Canary Islands (~2m inhabitants and ~400K hotel beds) * Won several contracts from five local hotels and hotel chains * Helped these clients increase online bookings substantially
