Engineering Portfolio: https://xinyiyang0.github.io/engineering-portfolio/ Research Website: https://xinyiyang0.github.io/ I am a third-year PhD researcher in Robotics and Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech and a mechanical engineer specializing in robotics hardware, structural dynamics, experimental mechanics, and advanced manufacturing. Work authorization: U.S. lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder) and U.S. person under ITAR; authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. I design, build, and experimentally validate mechanical systems from concept development and CAD through fabrication, instrumentation, testing, and publication. My work includes vibration-triggered modular structures, frequency-selective mechanical connectors, printer-integrated material characterization, ultralow-frequency vibration isolation, and high-pressure testing for marine robotic systems. My research investigates how sensing, response, and reconfiguration can be encoded directly into geometry, material properties, and structural dynamics rather than relying solely on embedded electronics. My work has been published in Nature Communications, Advanced Intelligent Systems, Physical Review Applied, and IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering. Previously, I conducted research at Harvard’s Microrobotics Laboratory, MIT CSAIL, and Carnegie Mellon University’s Morphing Matter Lab. Before entering research, I worked as a project manager coordinating multidisciplinary teams on large-scale healthcare and public-sector projects. This combination allows me to contribute both hands-on engineering experience and cross-functional project leadership. Alongside my engineering research, I maintain an independent art practice exploring mechanics, robotics, gravity, resonance, and transformation. My work has been performed at the MIT Media Lab, exhibited through Harvard Ceramics, and presented at ACM TEI.
