Xavier Bouvier was awarded a Prix de composition and a Diploma in music theory from the Geneva Music Conservatory. After studying mathematics during two years at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, he dedicates himself to musical composition and theory, as well as artistic and academic research projects. At the Geneva Music Conservatory, he served as Professor for counterpoint and analysis, Head of the conservatory library, and in 2001, Deputy Director. He is now Head of Studies of the newly renamed Geneva Haute école de musique. His responsibilities range from the design and monitoring of curriculum to the representation of the institution in several organizations. He is member of the Council of the Music Faculty of the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO), member of the Conference of the Swiss Music Universities (CHEMS), where he ran the working group on curriculums design during the Bologna reform. Xavier Bouvier has been involved in several musicology research projects around 18th century French music theory. In more recent years, he has been running research projects related to cross-culturality, mainly in relation to China and India: intercultural dimension of the musical creative processes, trans-cultural music theory, cultural borrowing, cultural cross-understanding and cultural diplomacy. He gives regular conferences in congresses and conferences around Europe and Asia. Xavier Bouvier plays piano and viola da gamba.
