We provided management and technical services for several startups. These companies' technologies included Web-mail, Point-Of-Sale (POS) systems, electronic check (ACH) processing, biometric identification, and oil sands chemistry. I was actively involved in product development, marketing, operations, and administration.
In 2002, Concord EFS purchased H.I.S. Financial (rolled up with CheckLogix), and I transitioned from an owner to a consultant while continuing to build and maintain the company infrastructure. In 2003, Concord EFS was purchased by First Data Corporation, where I continued on as a consultant in electronic check services.
As chief developer, using Linux (and open source) as a base, and working with Michael Enos (founder) I developed the company's core systems and applications for the electronic conversion of checks at the point-of-sale (POS). The primary systems being POS terminal applications, transaction acquisition (with verification), back-end settlement, and image archive/retrieval. I also developed POS bridge (hardware & software) technology to integrate older POS terminals with current check imaging devices. My responsibilities as S.V.P. included working with H/R on staffing, providing direction and support for the CIO, CTO, and other developers, ensuring that day-to-day production operations ran smoothly, new business development, and strategic planning.
