A consistent aim throughout both study and professional life has been to unite (intellectual) formation with (practical) service. Volunteering and extracurricular professional experience were an important part of my years at university; that commitment continues today through service with the Red Cross, secretarial responsibilities in a local political party and a national think tank, and the presidency of both a national non-profit organisation and a local party branch. Earlier experience as a scout leader and football referee helped shape a lasting sense of responsibility, leadership, and teamwork. Beyond professional and civic commitments, my interests include legal theory, long conversations on meaningful subjects over (good yet unpretentious) red wine or a Scottish whisky, and the discovery of (affordable) gastronomy. When time allows, a more creative side may even find expression in cooking and baking myself. I especially enjoy (amateur) paintings of nature, and a particular pleasure are moments of solitude in nature itself, attentive to its silence and sounds. With academic formation in the fields of Economics, Law, Religion, Business Studies and Tax Law from the University of Leuven, I currently serve as a civil servant of FPS Finance’s Tax administration, focusing on VAT and payroll withholding taxes. In or outside my purely professional occupation(s), my expertise lies at (the intersection of) law, finance, religion and governance. My overarching goal is to apply my academic achievements and practical skills to contribute to social, economic, and ethical justice on a broader scale in view of the common good, with particular attention to defending (the dignity of) life, (religious) liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
A/g Advisor & Head of Service of Team 1 within the PME Centre for Specific Matters at the Belgian Ministry Finance. In this role, I coordinate a specialised VAT team dealing with technical and cross-border matters concerning non-established taxable persons.
