Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
I am a motivated and internationally minded student with strong interests in politics, economics, science, and global affairs. I currently study IB Higher Level Politics, Economics, and Biology, alongside Maths AA, German, and English Language & Literature at Standard Level. Having lived in Germany for over 10 years after moving from Loughborough, I have developed a broad international perspective and strong adaptability across different cultures and environments. Alongside academics, I am heavily involved in leadership, sport, music, and community initiatives. Through my internship at Uniper, I gained insight into energy policy, trading, strategy, and risk management, strengthening my understanding of how politics and economics influence global markets. Outside the classroom, I play rugby for Düsseldorf Dragons and Aachen Rugby Club, which has developed my teamwork, resilience, and leadership skills. I have also played trumpet for 12 years and been involved in orchestra performances and international music events. I enjoy staying involved in a wide range of activities, from science communication and student leadership to mentoring younger students and leading sustainability and wellbeing workshops. In the future, I hope to study in the UK and continue combining my interests in politics, economics, and international business.

During my internship in Politics & Economics at Uniper, I gained broad exposure across government affairs, trading, risk, operations, and strategy, working with more than 10 teams and developing a strong understanding of how global energy markets function in practice. In the Government & Policy Governance Team, I attended meetings where internal positions were aligned ahead of government negotiations. I learned how regulatory strategy is formed and how energy policy and market structures influence corporate decision-making. I also gained insight into professional communication standards within German business environments. In Wholesale Sales, I explored how energy markets shifted after the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and how geopolitical events directly impact pricing, supply chains, and customer strategy in volatile conditions. On the UK Power Dispatch trading desk, I observed real-time electricity trading, including Day-Ahead and intraday decisions. Shadowing traders such as Paul, Lloyd, and Ben, I saw how market dynamics, weather, and demand influence rapid trading decisions, with exposure to trades exceeding €150M. In LNG Trading, I learned how global gas flows depend on timing, geography, and geopolitics, with headlines instantly impacting pricing and strategy across international markets. I also worked on strategy analysis using the framework of Security of Supply, Affordability, and Sustainability, assessing geopolitical risks such as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and their impact on oil prices, inflation, and decarbonisation. In ECMO (Risk & Margining), I saw how trades are validated, margined, and risk-managed daily, supporting large-scale trading operations behind the scenes. Overall, the internship gave me a unique end-to-end view of the energy sector, from policy and trading to engineering and risk, and included highlights such as a 1-on-1 with Uniper’s CEO and observing €150M+ trading activity live.
Completed both the Bronze and Silver The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, developing leadership, teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving skills through volunteering, physical activity, skill development, and expedition challenges. The experience strengthened my independence, perseverance, and ability to work effectively under pressure in unfamiliar environments.
