Istanbul, Türkiye
A CELTA Qualified English teacher currently working in Istanbul looking to further develop my skills and knowledge in this field. I have an undergraduate degree from the University of the West of England (UWE) in history and a masters degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in cultural studies. I have spent time volunteering boh in the UK, the Caucuses and Turkey and have taught English to students of all ages and from many different cultural backgrounds. I have skills and experience in lesson planning, conveying information, a high level of both reading and writing, fluency in English and a good proficiency in Turkish.
I have been working at British Side's Istanbul branch since the end of September 2025. I teach both online and face to face lessons to a mixture of age groups and levels. The school follows a sturdy curriculum and also allows teachers to be creative with their lessons planning which leads to a good teaching approach and allows students of all levels to get the most out of their course. The class sizes differ from groups of 5-10 and I also teach 1-1 lessons both on site and at certain students places of work. As well as teaching, I carry out placement tests for new potential students and carry out basic admin tasks.
I worked at Ütopya Özel Okulları during the academic year between Autumn 2024 - Summer 2025. I gained a great deal of experience during my time at the school working with children between the ages of 7-14. The level of the classes were always mixed which taught me how to plan, prep and carry out lessons with big differentiations in language level. As well as this we did many extra curricular activities with the students from festivals to hobby clubs which required a lot of hard work but was a great experience overall.
Working at ILC was my first teaching experience. I had such an enjoyable time working there and learnt so much over my short time at the school. My main duties were teaching both normal classes of mixed ages and backgrounds and communication classes. I also tracked student progress, wrote reports and planned al lessons.
