About

After a full time career in manufacturing I am now looking to move to a part time position. I bring a wide variety of experience in areas such a scientific analysis and testing, quality systems and auditing, IT systems, finance and continuous improvement. I am conscientious, reliable and flexible with a proven track record.

    As Quality Engineer for the Rod and Bar Mill making mainly reinforcing bar for the construction industry I manage the Metallurgical Laboratory performing QC checks and failure analysis to ensure finished product conforms to British Standards, I deal with customer complaints and help manage the process of dealing with non-conforming product on site. Additionally I participate in continuous improvement projects within the Mill.

My core responsibilities are to ensure departmental KPI's (customer complaints, cost of poor quality, non-conformance & supplier quality) targets are achieved. I must also maintain and develop site quality systems and accreditations (AS9100 rev C, NADCAP & customer approvals such as Rolls Royce & other aerospace customers), as well as managing the Metallography Laboratory.

I was responsible for the performance of the melting and casting processes and managed the raw material stock systems. My main KPI was to reduce the ingot scrap rate, which I cut by 30%. I participated in several 6 sigma green and black belt continuous improvement project teams, helped commission new equipment and managed a project to upgrade to the stock control software.

    I was taken on as Metallurgist for the Large Blades forge when it moved from the Leeds site to Blaenavon. The unit supplies turbine blades to aerospace and industrial gas turbine customers. I migrated the quality system to the new site and managed the heat treatment and mechanical testing functions when the move was completed. I also managed the site Metallography Laboratory.
