Four years at James Madison University studying Health Science with a concentration in biomechanics led to an interest in prosthetics and orthotics. My first exposure to the field began through a weekly shadowing experience in a local orthotic and prosthetic clinic in Harrisonburg, Va. Upon completion of my undergraduate degree I moved to the northern virginia area and began a prosthetic and orthotic internship at Infinite Technologies in Fairfax, Va. During this time I applied and was accepted into Northwestern University's masters of Orthotics and Prosthetics program from which I graduated in March of 2019. I completed my O&P residency at ABC Prosthetics and Orthotics in Orlando, Fl. I became a Certified Prosthetist Orthotist in October of 2021 and I am currently working in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Fabrication, modification and adjustment of orthoses and prostheses under supervision of certified Prosthetists and Orthotists. General observation and assistance during patient interaction, casting, fitting and delivery of upper and lower limb orthoses and prostheses. Observation and assistance during assessment of patient ROM, MMT and gait. Observation and assistance during measurement, fitting and delivery of spinal and cranial orthoses in a hospital and out-patient setting. Introduction to the biomechanical principles related to prosthetics and orthotics.
I shadowed the certified Prosthetist and Orthotist on a weekly basis. I was exposed to the basic elements of orthotics and prosthetics in an outpatient setting. I observed and assisted during the modification, fitting and delivery of orthoses and prostheses.
