“All singers were partnered by excellent pianist Soh Wei Qi, no mere accompanist but one ever-sensitive to the myriad nuances presented in the songs.” — Chang Tou Liang, The Straits Times, September 2025 Singaporean pianist Soh Wei Qi has established himself as a versatile musician, active as a soloist, collaborative pianist, and orchestral performer. He studied under Olga Radosavljevich-Gradojevich, Cyprien Katsaris, Mrs Rena Phua, Ning An, and has received recognition in numerous local and international competitions. His achievements includes winning Gold with Honors at the 2015 Raffles Music Competition with violinists Ronan Lim and Joey Lau, and receiving the Best Accompanist Award at the 2017 NAFA Vocal Competition. In the same year, he won the Gold Prize at the Nanyang International Music Competition, First Prize at the Ipoh Piano Competition, and the Championship in the Senior Piano Category of the National Piano and Violin Competition. His competition performance of Mozart's Piano Sonata was praised by Dr. Chang Tou Liang for its “big-boned playing, full of symphonic bluster, full of robust Sturm und Drang.” As a collaborative pianist, Wei Qi maintains an active performance career with New Opera Singapore, serving regularly in operatic productions, vocal and solo programmes. He also performs with TENG Ensemble and various orchestras, including the NAFA Orchestra, where he played piano in Stravinsky’s The Firebird, and the Orchestra of the Music Makers, where he served as répétiteur and pianist for Bernstein’s Mass. He is frequently engaged by leading institutions such as the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Capital College of Music, Raffles Music College, as well as musicians from ensembles including the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Singapore Chinese Orchestra. Internationally, he has been invited to accompany masterclasses by artists such as Vladimir Chernov, Angel Blue, Renée Fleming, and Joyce DiDonato. In 2018, Wei Qi received a National Arts Council Scholarship to attend the 2018 Kirishima International Music Festival in Japan and furthered his studies at the Gnessin State Musical College in Moscow. He is also active in contemporary and cross-cultural projects. In 2020, he premiered Zhang Kangyi’s Postcards from Singapore in Kraków, Poland. In 2025, he collaborated with the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München under Professor Moritz Eggert. In 2026, he has been invited to present a Wagner programme and his own opera transcriptions at the Hefei Grand Theatre and Shanghai Concert Hall。
