Walter Wakolbinger has a university degree (MSc) in Geographical Information Systems & Science and holds a diploma in Communication and Electronic Engineering. He draws on over 25 years of national and international experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing and project management. Mr. Wakolbinger has supported and worked on GIS projects on five continents – Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America. For more than ten years he was General Manager of LandMark GmbH & Co. KG, a company specialized in geodata acquisition and preparation, primarily through remote sensing techniques. This company also developed customized GIS applications for different niches (e.g. golf courts and small airports). For some two years Mr. Wakolbinger worked in Turkey, where he supported the TANAP pipeline project in his capacity as International Senior GIS Expert. Since 2015 he has been the leader of ILF’s GIS team in Austria and the head of ILF’s GIS Competence Center, supporting more than 40 branch offices with GIS know-how. In this capacity he is responsible for setting ILF’s overall GIS strategy, developing the hard- and software pool, managing and structuring the data pool, defining policies, plans and procedures, coordinating and liaising with the different data providers and leading the GIS staff. His major fields of interests are 3D stereophotogrammetry and modelling, drone applications, geohazard and climate change scenario modeling, mobile and web GIS applications.
