My life so far: young Canadian studies music, moves to France, and throws himself into the world of IT. Having now experienced life as a gas station attendant, sound engineer, janitor, ice cream man, maintenance worker, IT technician, and now Systems Administrator, I'm thrilled to have a job that allows me to draw upon both personal and professional experiences to make a difference (behind the scenes) in a field about which I am passionate: education Although I work daily with common commercial services such as Microsoft 365, I am a proponent of open-source solutions when they are feasible. Other interests include the transition to IPv6, hiking, prog rock, and spending time on anything that has two wheels! :)
- Server OS administration: Linux (Debian-based distros), Windows Server - Server application administration: Apache2, IIS, MySQL and MariaDB, Bind DNS, Microsoft SQL Server, FreeRADIUS, Active Directory, Veeam - Windows endpoint management: SCCM, InTune, WSUS, Group Policy - Mac endpoint management: Jamf Pro, Apple School Manager - Networking: Management of an urban campus network consisting of six separate sites, redundant cores, moving Layer 3 interface boundaries from the core to the distribution layer (segmentation, OSPF routing). Cisco, Juniper, Dell, FortiNet, and more! RADIUS for access control (FreeRADIUS and NPS) - IPv6 access deployed on-campus and in residences, with IPv6ification of services in-progress. (Come on, folks, it's 2025: let's get IPv6 deployed in education/enterprise networks!) - Microsoft 365 and Azure services administration - Hyper-V high-availability cluster administration, SAN and NAS administration - Veeam for backups, replicas, and disaster recovery planning - PowerShell and Bash scripting
- PC management: SCCM, WSUS, Group Policy - Mac management: Jamf Pro, Jamf Connect, Apple Profile Manager - Server administration: Windows Server, Ubuntu, even macOS Server (RIP). - Networking: Cisco, Xirrus, Ubiquiti, Dell, RADIUS (FreeRADIUS and NPS), plus IPv6 whenever possible! - Microsoft 365 and Azure services administration - Hyper-V high-availability cluster administration - Veeam for backups and replicas ...and some occasional support to get away from my desk! :)
- Assisting students and employees with all computer-and network-related issues - Installation and configuration of computer workstations, telephones, network equipment, and printers - Application deployment via SCCM, basic administration of Microsoft 365 and Active Directory - Complete management of all Apple workstations and servers using MDM technologies including Jamf Pro, Jamf Connect, and Apple Profile Manager
- Computer, telephone, and network consulting, installation, troubleshooting, and repair - Server installation and upkeep - IT fleet management - Web site and cloud services management - Microsoft 365 administration - Equipment, service, and expense auditing
- Physical management of computer equipment in the Paris office, and remote management and assistance with the equipment used in offices in Madrid, Barcelona, Florence, and Rome - End-user support with a variety of issues in a primarily Microsoft-based environment - Office 365 administration, management of other cloud services - Overhaul of network/services in the Paris office to include IPv6 connectivity, remote access, WAN redundancy, and virtualised servers providing GLPI, Jitsi, FreePBX, Samba, and SMTP services
