Vy is currently a third-year, undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with a minor in disability studies. She aspires to attend a Ph.D. program that focuses on Clinical Child and/or School Psychology. Her main research interests include an expansion of evidence-based, educational-implemented strategies to further serve marginalized and low-resource settings with an emphasis in early-childhood development towards adolescents with higher-support and/or specialized learning needs. Her passion of helping out and supporting her community has always been her top priority. It has helped her discover a deeper drive toward expanding educational settings to be more accessible and accommodating towards students' needs to celebrate every milestone and academic achievement they make. Additionally, she's also interested in how genetic, biological, and environmental influences, specifically cultural and socioeconomic factors, shape children's development and upbringing to better support her understanding of psychological responses. Throughout her internship and research experience at University of Oregon, she has grown to be interested in research-based practices that will continue to accomplish and work towards these goals to provide inclusivity for all students to try and help avoid internalized stigmatic beliefs.
- Help provide early-intervention and evidence-based practices to an inclusive, educational setting to 3-6 kids with developmental delays and/or disabilities. - Utilizes AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) accommodations using a combination of technology, physical objects, and/or visual cues. - Provide assistance in maintaining an accessible and safe classroom environment, preparation for art and craft projects, and cleanliness of space. - Help students with sensory expansion + exploration, transitions, interaction/communication strategies, leisure-based activities, development of gross and fine-motor skills, and self-care skills.
- Collaborate with co-instructors to provide a smooth transition to school from after school with 45+ students, ranging from K-5 grades. - Help supervise a welcoming and engaging space for after-school activities such as facilitating art projects, play-based learning with peers (outside and inside), storytelling, and social interactions. - Provide helpful communication services to parents regarding progress with students and/or the program itself. - Assist in preparing classroom environment which includes gathering materials for art projects, organizing classroom space, sanitizing, and other cleaning responsibilities included.
- Researched and summarized 45+ empirical, peer-reviewed articles and journals focused on ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) under the director of Center on Human Development, Dr. Chris Murray. - Researched articles contained a variety of topics that included transitional support from caregivers and educational programs, social camouflaging/masking, strengths in cognitive processing, expansion of skillsets, and more.
- Helped provide accurate and friendly customer service in-person and via telephone by taking and serving 20+ orders/a day. - Stocked and prepared multiple foods and ingredients for the purpose of future use. - Completed cleaning responsibilities such as dishwashing, sweeping, mopping, and sanitization to maintain and ensure a safe lobby + kitchen for workers and customers involved.
- Assisted 50+ senior residents with self-care responsibilities, including mobile accessibility, bathing, toileting, and transitions while providing individualized, timely check-ins. - Completed 45+ hours of online training relevant to ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), specialized dementia support, emergency response, and other related senior-care events/skills. - Reported low and high-incidents of health-related emergencies and injuries of senior residents using computer software. - Collaborated and problem-solved with other caregivers and medication technicians to ensure a supportive and friendly environment for all senior residents.
