I am honoured to have taken up my functions as the eighth UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in October 2022. Promoting and protecting human rights have been at the heart of my work with the United Nations since my earliest days on the ground as a protection officer. On behalf of the UN Human Rights Office, I invite renewed commitment to the centrality of human rights in addressing our greatest challenges and in striving for a better world -- one that learns from history, that values every single human being in freedom, openness, equality, and diversity, that overcomes division, and that furthers equity and justice.
