- Authored paper on the implications of rolling back the 2009 Greenhouse Gas Endangerment Finding on cardiovascular health and particularly heart failure submitted to The Lancet; and mentored premedical students on this project regarding environmental advocacy in medicine Nguyen V, Nguyen NT, Tamirisa K, Dai La Q, Jadav AA, Nguyen V, Lincoln K. - Clinical research coordinator for partial heart transplant clinical trial responsible for coordinating meetings, communicating with patients, consenting patients and their families, managing incoming organ offer calls, reviewing donor clinical data with a multidisciplinary team, organizing supplies for organ procurement, collecting data for procurement and transplant procedures, and recording data in databases with manuscript in progress - Basic science research assistant responsible for creating protocols to assess heart valve endothelium viability and function, collecting samples from research hearts and unused valve tissue from procured donor hearts, running assays in the lab, collecting and analyzing data, and presenting. Manuscript currently in progress. - Studying explanted transplanted hearts and re-endothelialization of valvular tissue for explanted orthotopic heart transplants and explanted partial heart transplant using short tandem repeat sequencing and cell culture techniques with manuscript in progress. - Presented on Boston Children Hospital’s partial heart transplantation program at the New England Donor Services Quarterly Heart Utilization Meeting as a guest speaker, presented poster at Boston Children’s Hospital Heart Research Day and at Harvard Medical School Soma Weiss Research Day - Clinical research coordinator for cardiac reconstruction with living tissue homograft at Boston Children’s Hospital responsible for coordinating with organ procurement organizations for use of tissue for cardiac reconstruction of valves, arteries, and veins - Assisted with translational pig surgery studies, such as accessory heart transplantation and mitral valve partial heart transplantation
- Provide one-on-one mentoring for underserved high school juniors and seniors to support their post-secondary success by helping them explore college and other post-secondary options and assisting with college essays and applications
- Host surgery workshops for students interested in cardiothoracic surgery to teach skills and promote networking with residents and attendings; host seminars to teach students about cardiac physiology, pathophysiology, and procedures; and host panels to educate students on cardiothoracic surgery and promote interest among students at Harvard Medical School
- Planned and organized speaker event at Harvard Medical School with climate justice leaders from San Diego, CA, Dr. Vi Nguyen and Dr. Kimberly Dickson, regarding climate justice and a real-life case study of the Tijuana River Sewage Crisis - Planned and organized high-demand speaker event at Harvard Medical School with Professor Adam Aron from University of California, San Diego regarding climate change and advocacy with fundraiser for Friends of the Earth International using funds from sales of Dr. Aron’s books - Attend meetings regarding projects for climate change advocacy and awareness at Harvard Medical School
- Mentor underprivileged high school students to give students a greater opportunity to pursue careers in health care, with the wider goal of increasing high school graduation rates - Teach high school students about various careers in healthcare and select topics such as emergency medicine, reproductive health, and heart anatomy to foster interest in medicine
- Participate in meetings regarding climate advocacy in Massachusetts, particularly advocacy for offshore wind in local communities, and helped develop database for municipal climate research
