I have advised both small-medium enterprises (SMEs), multinational corporations (MNCs) and individuals on various aspects of employment law, including the conduct of retrenchment and redundancy exercises, wrongful termination, employment investigations and restraint of trade clauses. I have also been involved in extensive civil and commercial disputes, investigations and criminal representation work. Outside of work, I enjoy catching up on global affairs by starting my mornings with a brief read of The Economist. I am also an avid table tennis player, swimmer, football fan and violinist.
1) Successfully represented our clients, a Singapore biotechnology company and its representatives, in multiple parallel legal proceedings, including a) overturning on appeal a decision of the High Court at first instance, granting the opposing party unconditional leave to defend in an application for summary judgment filed by our client. On appeal, the Court ordered conditional leave to defend in the sum of S$1.5m security to be furnished by the Defendants. b) In parallel proceedings, we also successfully set aside a default judgment and obtained a stay of court proceedings in favour of arbitration. This was upheld on appeal. c) Amidst all of the above ongoing proceedings, we also obtained urgent injunctions as agains the Defendant, who had removed our client's representatives and directors in breach of a shareholders' agreement between parties. Completed my 6-month Relevant Legal Training as part of the prerequisites to be admitted to the Singapore Bar under the tutelage and mentorship of Partners Mr Peter Doraisamy, Mr Gerard Quek and Mr Andrew Lee Weiming. Handled and exposed to a variety of contentious civil and criminal matters (particularly employment matters- 70% of overall work done), including: - Obtaining settlement of an employment dispute in excess of S$100,000.00 for a wrongful dismissal claim; - Assisting with the drafting of a mitigation plea on behalf of a client charged with insulting a woman's modesty under Section 509 of the Penal Code, voyeurism offences against vulnerable persons under Section 377BB of the Penal Code and assault with intention to outrage modesty under Section 354 of the Penal Code. - Drafting of pleadings and affidavits in various debt enforcement proceedings in the High Court, District Court and Magistrates' Court of Singapore. - Assisting with the discovery process and drafting of Affidavit of Evidence in Chief in preparation for a trial in the High Court of Singapore. - Assisting and providing legal advice to an employee dismissed from a major bank on allegations of misconduct. - drafting of letters of correspondence in relation to wrongful dismissal disputes. - assisted a client to obtain final judgment in a simplified, uncontested divorce. - researching and drafting a legal opinion for a company on a potential minority oppression claim.
