Currently Staff member of Museum Policy Department of the City of Antwerp. Further, I am a passionate curator of exhibitions with a strong focus on content. Besides being managerial I like to put efforts into a solid content for exhibitions and to make these accessible for a wider audience. Grown into a generalist over the years, professional fields range from Antiquity to Modern Art, from Western to non-Western Art. Trying to keep an open view to new fields and views. I try to live without any prejudice. A commercial attitude towards museums and exhibitions has become like a second nature to me. The foundation Jacob de Wit 2020 works on improving people's interest to this gifted 18th century Dutch artist by focusing on his art commissioned by the Amsterdam elite in the first half of the 18th century. Jacob de Wit, born in the Jordaan neighborhood in 1695, developed himself into a splendid painter of grisailles and ceiling paintings. He became a well-known artist in his day and age and was followed by a number of artists.
Strong focus on research, exhibiting and publishing the MAS collection, in articles as well as online through our website. Also working on a new permanent exhibition about America and another temporary one about queer history in Antwerp and Belgium. The MAS | Museum aan de Stroom aims to be an international and groundbreaking museum about global connections between people and collections from diverse worlds of thought and life. With a 'Stroom aan verhalen', A River of stories, viewed from multiple perspectives, we engage everyone curious about the present, past and future of Antwerp and the world. The MAS works with (inter)national public and partners. The diverse collection ranges from history, art and culture of the port city of Antwerp, through international trade and shipping to art and culture in Europe, Africa, America, Asia and Oceania. The iconic MAS building is the place where visitors from all over the world meet.
As a member of this board I have contributed to the Anniversary Year 2009; further I cooperate with the Secretary in organizing activities and assist him in formulating policy for the Friends of the Museum as well as acquiring new objects for the Museum's collection.
During my time as Secretary I widened the range of lectures to atract a wider audience to attend these. I succeeded: I organised a series of lectures about the 'Afterlife' of Antiquity, how the Ancients survived the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in Western Art. Several Dutch scholars such as Arjen van der Jagt (Professor in Medieval History at Groningen University) gave inspiring lectures.
