3. Duties i. Supervision and Control a) Coordinate and control the tasks/activities of the Plant Superintendents and their Operational teams, associated with personnel performance, productivity, discipline and achieving Key Performance Indicators. b) Monitoring attendance/conduct and output and addressing deviations from agreed performance indicators through meetings/counselling and/or other approved methods designed to improve and motivate personnel. c) Establishing the adequacy and availability of personnel against agreed outcomes and motivating to the immediate supervisor to additional resources. d) Interacting with the “selection panel” on prospective candidates competencies to support departmental needs with a view to identifying suitable personnel for appointment. e) Participating in the induction program and providing “on the job” training for new recruits and existing personnel to the department. f) Addressing workplace conflict/conduct through the initiation and co-ordination of consultative processes and implementation of specific disciplinary procedures. g) Defining skills gap and training needs and activities, procedural sequences aimed at developing and capacitating individuals. ii. Technical Duties h) Coordinate and control the operation of pump stations, bulk pipelines and treatment works (Bulk Works). i) Ensure the Overstrand Bulk Works operates within specification, trending results and optimisation thereof. j) To direct & develop the implementation of company standards and systems and develop a reliable operations date base. k) Ensure the application of contractual standards and regulations. l) Assess the adequacy of procedures, systems and controls associated with vehicles, plant, equipment and material availability and utilization m) Evaluate current security and safety measures and correcting deviations from set procedure
Develop and proactively implement a sound operational strategy that is aligned to the business and commercial strategy. The strategy would encompass setting specific objectives to ensure that production, cost and quality targets are met and exceeded to ensure growth of the business in terms of volume and profit margins through: -The management of a diverse team in a variety of functions to ensure growth and profit margins of the organisation. -Translate future direction of the company into measurable, tangible and operational goals and targets. -Ensure that continuous improvement processes with regards to management and manufacturing processes are implemented and monitored.
Working as Superintendent at the Mining plant my duties include: • Manage quality control and quality assurance in the plants; • Manage effective labour planning and control; • Ensure the efficient operation of the plants; • Ensure that the mine’s safety policies, values and principles complied with; • Maximizing production, grades and decreasing tailings percentages; • Initialising and project management of capital projects in area of responsibility • Review the production performance and implement corrective actions; • Liaison with the Processing and Geology departments to ensure effective management of stockpiles, working pits and grade control / exploration and accurate recording of production data; • Ensure compliance and adherence to the budget; • Approve budgetary expenditures within authorization limits • Ensure in-depth knowledge and understanding of technical engineering aspects such as OEM’s and SABS standards; • The preparation of annual budgets, monthly production reports and project technical reports as required.
Working as Superintendent at the Furnace and Metal Treatment plant my duties include: • Commissioning of DC arc furnaces (anodes) • Commissioning of FFE pre-heaters, full integration into furnace operation • Managing of operational budget in excess of R750million • Investigation and implementation of refractory designs i.e. centre seal, ladle, tap hole and launder • Project management of process related projects • Performance management of direct subordinates • Design/selection of process equipment and managing installation and commissioning • Long/short term project identification to improve volume and reduce costs • Evaluation and mitigation of plant risks to minimise effect on throughput • Designing of process/equipment to improve process stability and volume • Technical investigations aimed at improving the plant efficiency, operations and production capacity • Investigation of irregularities which may impact on production rate, production quality and equipment integrity. • Identification, application and continuous improvement of best practices. • Assistance with the development and training of operators identified to become production controllers. • Promoting SHE principles. • Promoting integrated breakthrough methodology (Continuous improvement) • Budgeting: Production and Refractory in excess of R700million/year • Capital utilisation from feasibility to final handover • Change management process relating to in-sourcing of different functions • Development of training modules and STP’s. • Ad hoc investigation to improve availability of furnaces • Contract management
