About

Victoria Young Lanier founded Education Through Music-LA in 2006 as the first independent national affiliate of the ETM model (NY) and has led the organization to serve 800 children and 2 schools its first year to now 45 schools and over 19,000 children. An advocate for equity and access for all children, Lanier has been a featured speaker for Disney Imagineering, KPCC, LA County Dept. of Arts and Culture Innovation Lab, Executive Service Corps, Colburn School, Skirball Cultural Center, Variety Power of Youth, LA Phil Youth Orchestra LA, Digital Hollywood Summit, and for school- and community-based events. She has been honored by Los Angeles City Hall, American String Teachers Association, and Classy Awards. Lanier began teaching music in 1999 to students in under-resourced schools as part of the Education Through Music program and was a violin/music teacher, mentor, curriculum writer, and program coordinator. In 2004, Lanier was chosen for the Ralph Lauren Polo Jeans G.I.V.E. Campaign for her community and non-profit work with Education Through Music. Lanier's extensive involvement with music education programs include coordinating Carnegie Hall's Weill Institute Seminar for inner-city high school students, Buckley School, Henry Mancini Institute, Mannes College of Music Prep Division, and NJ Symphony's Outreach Program. Lanier's experience as a professional violinist includes studio film and television recordings including Fox Simpsons and Spiderman III, performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall, Hollywood Bowl, and Walt Disney Concert Hall with diverse artists including Smokey Robinson, Ahn Trio, Pacific Symphony, Il Divo, John Williams, Long Beach Opera, Kanye West, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Stevie Wonder, and Christina Aguilera.
