Greater Exeter Area
I am a passionate researcher, who has a particular interest in sustainable development, science communication and how nature and technology can work together to help our understanding of the natural world! I am currently working at JET Connectivity as a Bid and Research Manager, working on delivering 5G at Sea to enable a smarter, sustainable and safer maritime environment. I graduated with an MSc by Research in Geography in 2019, focusing on coastal erosion in the South West and using modern technologies to monitor our coastlines. In 2017 I graduated with a First class degree BSc Geographer with honours, from the University of Exeter. Throughout my degrees, I have developed extensive GIS and ArcMap skills, as well as learning and teaching myself different coding and modelling programs (e.g. Python and Matlab). My degrees have given me a comprehensive understanding of ecology, conservation, and environmental processes and interactions. I have a range of effective organisational skills and can manage demanding workloads, meet deadlines and make necessary alterations and adjustments. My work is of high quality, with particular attention to ensuring the factual accuracy of environmental information whilst remaining engaging. Throughout my time at the University of Exeter I was extremely active within its geography department, university societies and other university events. In addition to this, I undertook a NERC (Natural Environment Research Council) funded studentship at the University of Exeter, under the SPECTRA research group, which gave me valuable experience in working as a part of a partnership within a laboratory setting. I am also a second degree black belt, as well as a qualified assistant instructor in Tae Kwon-Do. I was very involved in the Universities club and sat on many committee positions.
Within this role I am responsible for managing the application to grants, as well as customer facing bids as we develop the worlds-first floating 5G at Sea solution. My role also consists of managing potential use-case possibilities, delivering feasibility projects and maintaining the shared communication and knowledge between JET Engineering System Solutions and research organisations, universities and academics.
I am co-leading and overseeing a local tree planting initiative, a re-wilding project, and communal growing projects. I also inform, teach and encourage my local community to mitigate and protect our environment within a changing world. I am currently using ArcMap to map tree populations within the parish of Altarnun to create an interactive map for members and local people to interact with. Additionally, I co-ordinate the Action Group’s general inquiry email, where we answer climate action questions from residents in our local community. I work hard to ensure that all information is scientifically accurate and professional. I also produce concise research information documents and newsletters to encourage the understanding of how daily habits mitigate climate change, such as “Food and Climate Change”. I converted science into bitesize information, accessible to the broad readership of newsletters - I have received positive feedback from our local community regarding my publications. I have worked with the public and private sector within this role (e.g. churchwardens) as well as local people to outline potential native tree species for their allocated planting locations and other possible ways to encourage native species to the area. I also run the group’s social media, communicating our conservation work to the wider community.
Within my current role at Ronald Martins Butchers, I am a retail cashier. Within this role, I provide high-quality customer service on a daily basis. I am responsible for ensuring wholesale items are charged accordingly and orders are fulfilled effectively and efficiently - ranging from hundreds to thousands of pounds worth of stock. I also am responsible for taking receipt of high-value deliveries (e.g. medication and tobacco products), reposting any discrepancies to management, and ensuring products are stored in the appropriate place, ensuring that this stock is rotated in the correct manner. I set up seasonal products within the store; making sure shelves and displays remain well stocked and aesthetically pleasing to customers within the store.
This work on a part-time basis and ad-hoc. Within this role, I was responsible for understanding customer purchasing needs and provide recommendations for a wide range of products and menu items. As well as this, I was able to work under pressure and maintain composure during busy periods on a regular basis. I worked as part of a team to deliver excellent customer service and support team members in a variety of ways. I was also responsible for correct stock-taking, rotation and ordering - to ensure the cafe ran smoothly and customer needs were met. Machine maintenance and cleaning to ensure the smooth operation was also a daily task which I undertook with great detail, ensuring they met company standards to produce the best product possible.
Within this role, I was responsible for demonstrating and assisting students with technical digital learning ArcGIS tasks and coursework. During my own time I was responsible for learning the lessons tasks, troubleshooting any issues which might occur during the processing, and then delivering this information and skills to students to ensure they produced the correct outcomes for them to complete their coursework. I also facilitated and led student learning when on-field and residential trips. I was responsible for ensuring in-field tests were carried out in the correct way to ensure students got the best results for their work, as well as ensuring equipment was well maintained and clean between groups. I also assisted students in deciphering and understanding their field findings and writing these up in an academic manner. This gave me valuable experience in teaching at a higher level, as well as delivering complex instructions in an accessible manner to students. Through this work, I was nominated and shortlisted for a Teaching Award for providing exceptional digital learning opportunities in Geography.
I am a qualified Assistant Instructor in Taekwondo, with this skill I worked within this role at the University of Exeter Taekwondo club. I was responsible for teaching and facilitating the learning of over 30 students at a time, as well as on a one-to-one basis. This role developed my understanding of collective learning and ensuring my communication was clear and easily understood.
Within this role, I worked with the University of Exeter's Geography department to provide a series of events for prospective A-Level students interested in studying Geography at the university. I prepared and delivered a range of presentations and workshops based on a series of different topics confidently and eloquently.
