Serve as a department head and a member of the City’s executive management team. Manages the resources of the Public Works Department. Plans, administers, and directs all activities relating to the design, construction, repair and/or maintenance of the infrastructure of the City. City infrastructure includes: streets, alleys and surface drainage; traffic systems, pavement markings and street signs; central garage facilities and vehicles; and building facilities. Develops department mission statement and supports its goals and objectives.
Plans, directs, organizes, manages and administers the City's engineering services program under the direction of the Director of Public Works. Program areas may include traffic engineering, capital projects engineering, facilities engineering, development review, and inspections. • Manage the City's engineering services program, including design, capital construction, civil plans review, traffic and transportation engineering, inspections, materials lab, facilities engineering, and technical services • Direct preparation and recommendation of program budget for the Public Works Department • Coordinate engineering activities and projects with other departments, outside agencies, and jurisdictions • Direct the development of reviews and specifications for major work projects, new development, and contracts • Provide assistance and guidance to management and City Council on policy and programs related to engineering matters • Collaborate with Aurora Water, Operations, Facilities, Real Property, and Fleet on standards, projects, resource needs, and policies • Review technical reports; represent the department at meetings and on committees • Develop and propose engineering policies • Assist in developing operational priorities, goals, and objectives • Prepare and present information to senior management, City departments, policy committees, City Council and others • Make recommendations to the Director regarding selection, hiring, training, evaluating and disciplining assigned employees • Manage staff with emphasis on exceeding expectations • Work to setup remote access and policies for reporting teams to address COVID policies, including hybrid work moving forward • Lead and participate in American Public Works Association (APWA) reaccreditation process
