During my medical assistant externship, I performed back office tasks that included taking patient vital signs and communicating the clinic's medications and products. I administered vitamin and fat burner injections intramuscularly through the upper arm, stomach, and glute. I administered these under supervision, and later permitted to handle patients independently. Under supervision, I dispensed medications (in tablet and capsule forms) and prepared injections for patients to take home. I assisted the physician assistant in minor surgeries, and prepared all procedure room items. I also performed front office duties such as maintaining an organized patient schedule, and monitoring appointments as they come into the clinic. Over the phone, I spoke to patients to schedule appointments, answered their questions, and to remind them of their follow-up appointments. I charted patient information, and filed charts into their respective active and inactive shelves. I restocked procedure rooms, and worked with the clinic team to maintain a clean and organized clinic.
As a Sixth College Orientation Leader, I lead several cohorts of incoming first years and transfers through campus resources and student life. My role is to communicate with, and encourage team bonding among my orientees, and to create a welcoming environment in their transition into higher education. As a returning orientation leader, my additional duties include leading a group of new orientation leaders through orientation sessions with advice and guidance on how to facilitate a welcoming space for their respective orientees.
