About

I’ve thirty years’ experience in subsurface coupled modelling. I hold a Civil and Geotechnical Engineer degree (1992), a Master of Science degree in Mechanics of Solids, Structures and Poromechanics (1994), a PhD in Geomechanics (1999) and I’m habilitated Research Director of the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées - ParisTech (Paris, France) since 2009. During the period 1999 – 2009 I’ve developed experimental and theoretical applied research at Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées - ParisTech (Paris, France), investigating a wide range of problems involving flow and deformation in porous media (soils, rocks, concrete), thermal, chemical and bio-chemical interactions. Applications spanned over multiple industries: infrastructure (civil engineering), environmental risks (mining), Oil & Gas, Nuclear Energy, New Energies (e.g. carbon storage, geothermal, hydrogen storage). I joined SLB (formerly Schlumberger) in 2009 as geomechanics and unconventional gas specialist. In SLB I’ve covered both technical and business management roles in geomechanics, drilling, completion and reservoir modelling. I’ve reached the higher technical ladder of Advisor in 2014. Since 2021 I’m in charge of the definition of technologies and solutions for Carbon Storage and I coordinate R&D programs in SLB Technology New Energy Industrial Decarbonization. My recent activity focuses on innovative digital and AI supported technologies enabling self-learning and autonomous simulations at industrial scale. I’m author and co-author of 25 journal papers, 3 book chapters, 58 international conference papers, 8 national (French) conference papers, 43 research\technical reports and monographs. Co-editor of 11 books. Presenter of a wide variety of topics related to coupled modelling (geomechanics and flow modelling) for a total of more than 60 lectures worldwide. I’ve tutored 2 Post-Doctoral fellows, 5 PhD thesis, 11 MSc projects, 8 Graduate students, 10 Undergraduate students and has been member of 6 PhD jury committees.

Geomechanics and Geotechnics Theoretical and Experimental analysis of Soils and Rocks behaviour. - Hydro-mechanical coupling in geomaterials (experimental and theoretical studies, numerical modelling). - Mechanical behaviour of deep sediments from the Gulf of Guinea (West Africa): structuration effects, microstructural characterisation (porosimetry and SEM investigations) and influence of fluid chemistry. - Acoustic properties of soils partially saturated by gas and/or gas hydrates. - CO2 sequestration: experimental characterization of the CO2 biomineralization. - Subsidence in North Sea offshore oilfields (Ekofisk). - Hydro-mechanical coupling and retention properties of chalk. Application to the practical problems of oil reservoirs subsidence and shallow mine collapses. - Time dependent hydro-mechanical behaviour of partially saturated mine chalks: ageing, microstructural evolutions due to environmental changes. - Theoretical, constitutive and numerical FEM analyses of sand-steel interfaces and discontinuities (faults). Analyses of deep foundation systems (piles).
