- In charge of know-how strategy and preparation of seminars and newsletters, both internal and external. - Created a new, briefer internal newsletter to help non-lawyers understand different types of schemes and legal developments. - Ran some of the most complicated cases put before the Ombudsman and prepared these for his sign off. - Gave legal advice to case-handlers and managers and mentored adjudicators. - Received excellent feedback from the Ombudsman himself, left position owing to family’s relocation to Hong Kong.
Acted for companies and trustees on diverse matters such as pension closures, investment management agreements, the establishment of new occupational pension arrangements, the pensions aspects of corporate transactions, the drafting of pension schemes for employers with an international workforce and trustee investment obligations amongst other matters. - Advised a leading bank on how to structure its offshore offering and the distribution of tasks and responsibilities between the management and investment arms of its business. - Ran the closure of an international company’s pension scheme. Advised the company as the first point of contact from the initial stages to drafting the closure documentation. Advised on ways to reduce a deficit, liaised with actuaries and HR contacts, prepared communications and notices to Trustees and Members, advised on transfer-out options and enhancements, negotiated with the Trustees, drafted Instrument of Amendment and Closure (including a run-off rule). - Regularly drafted and advised on QROPs (Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Schemes) and QNUPS (Qualifying Non-UK Pension Schemes), regularly advise on the investment-regulated pension scheme regime and the pensions provisions of the Finance Act 2004. - Regularly drafted and advised on international pension schemes for companies with an international presence, and offshore schemes for individuals in which they have investment control (or delegate this to an investment adviser).
