In the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs, I work as the section head for the Students in Qatar section as well as Editorial Assistant in the Science and Technology section, where our primary focus is on examining the profound impact of science and technology on international affairs. Our team explores critical issues such as the role of emerging technologies in global security, the influence of scientific advancements on international diplomacy, and the evolving nature of warfare in the digital age. Through rigorous research and analysis, we aim to provide insightful perspectives on how technological innovations are reshaping geopolitical dynamics and affecting global power structures. Our work involves collaborating with experts from various fields, engaging in thought-provoking discussions, and publishing articles that contribute to the broader understanding of science and technology’s role in contemporary international relations. This role has honed my skills in research, writing, and critical thinking, and has provided me with a unique vantage point on the intersection of technology and global affairs.
As an active member of Georgetown University’s Honor Council, I focus on promoting academic integrity and ethical conduct among the student body. My responsibilities include participating in the Sanction Reduction Program, where I work to facilitate sanction reductions for students who have been found guilty of violations. By guiding approximately 20% of these students through the process, I help them internalize the importance of integrity and emphasize the value of personal growth and development through second chances. In this role, I also engage in regular discussions and deliberations with fellow council members to ensure fair and just outcomes for all cases. I provide mentorship and support to students, helping them understand the implications of their actions and encouraging them to make positive changes. My involvement with the Honor Council has strengthened my commitment to upholding high ethical standards and has enhanced my ability to approach challenging situations with fairness and empathy.
This summer in 2024, I had the privilege of enrolling in courses at Georgetown University, where I focused on the impact of technology on public policy. Through a rigorous academic program, I explored how technological advancements shape and influence public policy decisions, and how policymakers can effectively address the challenges and opportunities presented by emerging technologies. My coursework covered a broad range of topics, including data privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and the ethical implications of technological innovation. I engaged in in-depth analyses of current policy frameworks and participated in discussions on how to develop forward-thinking strategies to ensure that technology serves the public good. This experience has equipped me with a deeper understanding of the intersection between technology and policy, and has enhanced my ability to critically evaluate and contribute to policy development in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
