I took this career break to focus on my health and wellbeing. I stood outside my comfort zone to take on new experiences and learn new skills.
• Customer Service: I learned to communicate with customers by responding to their enquiries and listening attentively to make sure they felt heard. During troubleshooting, I relayed my findings to the customers in a concise manner that was easy to understand, providing clear solutions to solve the problem, as well as some advice on avoiding the problem in the future. • Transparency: I created detailed inspection reports for customers and noted down every fault that needed addressing. These were then communicated to the customer, ensuring that they were well-informed of the repairs required. • Problem-solving: Developed through diagnosis and coming up with solutions while tending to a customer’s roadside breakdown. A thorough investigation resulted in the replacement of a new battery, and a future appointment for alternator replacement, safeguarding against electrical gremlins thereafter. • Safety-minded: Cleaned as I worked, but also conducted end-of-day duties such as tidying and organizing the workshop, emptying bins and oil drainers and putting tires away. Any faulty equipment was decommissioned until repairs were conducted. Safety equipment was used where necessary, minimizing the chance of injury. • Methodical: Before commencing work I made sure that I knew the details of the job at hand, such as torque specs and tools required. As I worked I made sure to reference instructions and tutorials, ensuring I stayed on the right track. Fasteners and components were clearly laid out and if necessary, labelled to prevent confusion upon reassembly. This applies regardless of job complexity; be it a simple oil change, or a bigger job like thermostat housing replacements on European cars.
