London, England, United Kingdom
Our ambition is to host a wide range of social, cultural and religious events throughout the academic year for our 800 plus annual members, as well as thousands of our UK based audience and offer them much more from their university experience than just a degree! Since being established in 1991, we have grown into one of UCL's largest and most influential student societies, winning several awards (including UCLU Society of the Year!) and appealing to an increasingly diverse range of students across all disciplines, faiths and backgrounds. Whilst still remembering our Hindu roots, we believe our success stems from our emphasis on bringing together all UCL students to celebrate our common values and cultural diversity! As well as frequent gatherings, discussions and workshops we strive to deliver several large-scale events each term, often revolving around Hindu themes and celebrations. This year, we kick-start our calendar in October as we celebrate Navratri at the UCL Garba, followed almost immediately by Diwali in early November! Having previously celebrated the "festival of lights" with fireworks, gatherings and poojas, we have hosted a very popular and extravagant Diwali Ball for the last couple of years, selling out more than a week in advance! This coming year expect an even grander and bigger event! Additionally, every year UCLU Hindu Society produces a cultural variety show, Rangeela, a production completely organised, run and performed by UCL students raising money for charity! Having been so successful every single year from 2013, selling-out over two nights to over 1000 audience members at UCL's very own Bloomsbury Theatre and raising £25,000 for the Saving Faces Foundation. Since 2014 we have successfully sold out all our Rangeela event theatres and prepare to even expand further in 2022/23. For more information about the show, our chosen charity and how to get involved please visit our Rangeela page. Alongside our regular annual events such as Holi, this year we are also delighted to be collaborating with other university's and UCLU societies to bring you an even wider range of activities to get involved in, including sports, volunteering and Sewa! This year UCLU Hindu Society promises to be the biggest and boldest it has ever been, and definitely the society you want to get involved with this year! We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
