I am driven by my passion for software reliability and mathematically driven development, such as the application of concepts in algebra as design patterns for richly-typed functional programming in Haskell, or in designing and using predictive models to not only derive results, but to build meaningful models of the underlying behavior under observation. I am comfortable working with everything from low level performance optimization to back-end service design and implementation to creating informative tooling and front-ends to provide insight to stakeholders. My particular focus is on tooling and data analysis, but I am flexible and adroit at expanding my skills to suit whatever problem domain is before me. The ultimate power of computing (and, indeed, technology itself) lies in our ability to take what once was work that required effort from skilled human practitioners and transforming it into the responsibility of a mere tool that allows us to focus on adding value and achieving innovation.

    I worked on the Cabal project, implementing a substantial amount of needed functionality that was key to making the new-style interface that had been under development since 2016 the default, as was officially implemented in Cabal 3.0, which I helped to release in 2019. I personally implemented the `new-sdist` and `new-clean` commands and substantially improved the `new-repl`, `new-update`, and `new-install` commands during the summer of 2018.
