Most of what I know about how cities actually get built — the real decisions behind FAR ratios, density targets, PPP tender structures, and infrastructure alignment — isn't documented in Arabic anywhere. That's the gap I'm working to close. I write about urban development strategy, master planning mechanics, and how Vision 2030 is being translated into built reality. Leading the development strategy for one of Saudi Arabia's most complex urban regeneration projects. My role sits at the intersection of urban design and business strategy: translating a vision master plan into a financially viable, infrastructure-aligned development model. This means challenging consultant outputs, defining GFA/density/land use parameters, and ensuring every design decision is grounded in implementation reality. Running an international master plan competition and managing the alignment between design ambition and city-scale infrastructure capacity.
Translated the urban framework plan into a structured business plan — bridging the gap between spatial planning and investment logic. Defined the development phasing, land use mix targets, and density parameters that would guide the project into its next stage.
Managed large-scale transportation infrastructure delivery and led the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) tender process for two major contracts — covering RFQ, RFP preparation, and bid assessment. This gave me direct exposure to how government entities structure major urban infrastructure procurements and evaluate private sector proposals. Collaborated with AECOM and SYSTRA on the Light Rail System — one of the most complex transport infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia's modern development history.
Led the Light Rail System project and managed tender submissions in collaboration with AECOM and SYSTRA — developing master plans for Jeddah's public transport initiatives and ensuring compliance with architectural and infrastructure standards. This role provided the foundation for understanding how large-scale infrastructure projects are procured, designed, and delivered within the Saudi government framework.
