I serve as Co-CEO and CFO/CIO of the Karg Foundation, one of Germany’s leading operational foundations focused on gifted education. My responsibility covers the foundation’s full financial and investment architecture as well as all central operational functions (finance, legal, tax, HR, and IT). The focus is on disciplined governance, long-term capital stewardship, and institutional performance. Over the past eight years, the foundation has significantly expanded its activities, strengthened its national role, and further developed its impact in gifted education. The foundation operates as a national think tank, advising policymakers, training educators and psychologists, and contributing to systemic quality and inclusion for gifted and high-potential learners. Beyond my executive role, I contribute to the development of institutional standards across the sector: – Co-Chair of the Working Group on Foundation Assets & Real Estate at the Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen – Member of supervisory and advisory boards – Moderator, speaker, and contributor on governance, capital allocation, and institutional investing Earlier roles include positions at Sal. Oppenheim / Deutsche Bank, NORD/LB, Stern Stewart & Co., and Allen & Overy. I am a qualified lawyer and Diplom-Kaufmann, and hold an MBA from the University of Cape Town, with additional study periods at Chicago Booth School of Business and ESADE Business School. Focus: Strengthening governance, improving capital allocation, and ensuring that foundations can fulfil their purpose sustainably.
Trutz Rendtorff has served since 2018 as Co-CEO and Chief Financial & Investment Officer (CFO/CIO) of the Karg Foundation in Frankfurt, one of Germany’s largest operational foundations. He oversees the foundation’s entire investment portfolio, financial strategy, risk management, and operational business units. The Karg Foundation acts as a national educational think tank focused on improving the identification, support, and inclusion of gifted and high-potential children within Germany’s education system. Its work includes advising policymakers, training educators and psychologists, and strengthening systemic educational quality and equity.
