About

Trenika is a current Commonwealth Fund Fellow in Minority Health Policy at Harvard University. She completed her residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago and her medical doctorate (M.D.) at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. Trenika earned a B.A. with a double major in Psychology and African American African Diaspora Studies with a concentration in History, Culture, and Social Issues at Indiana University Bloomington, concurrently completing a B.S. in Neuroscience there. Additionally, Trenika earned an M.S. in Biological Sciences from Southern Illinois University in addition to completing the MEDPREP program. She is an Albert Schweitzer Fellow for Life, an Urban Health Scholar, and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Mentorship is Trenika's greatest passion, and her professional interests include service, advocacy, the eradication of health disparities disproportionately affecting her community, and enhancing the pipeline of underrepresented minorities into medicine. She spent a 2-year tenure serving on the National Board of Directors of the Student National Medical Association as the Region VII Director. She currently serves on the Board of the MedCEEP (Medical Careers Exposure and Emergency Preparedness) Initiative. Trenika is a motivational speaker with the Beyond Beautiful Girls Empowerment Movement. She has released her first co-authored book, Beyond Beautiful Vol 2: A Girls Guide to Studying, Self-Care and Staying Focused During Difficult Times.     The mission of this 501c3 is to address the problems of poor healthcare, low health literacy, violence, lack of access to quality healthcare providers, and systemic injustices that have plagued our communities for generations. We empower underrepresented minority youth to become trained in recognizing and responding to the most prevalent life-threatening emergency scenarios while being exposed to health-related careers, in hopes of increasing representation in the field of medicine. We aim to sustainably combat pervasive health care disparities that more commonly impact the underserved communities with which we work. •Serves as Resident Research Coordinator analyzing the effectiveness of emergency preparedness training of youth •Secured $25,000 grant for 2023 MedCEEP Summer Pipeline Program •Co-plans and implements TRAP (Trauma Reduction and Prevention of) Violence as lead program co-facilitator of this initiative focused on providing the proper resources via trained professionals and workshops to help students cope with violence seen prevalently in their communities and the resulting trauma.
